Men's Basketball Begins The Season With Win
The Andrew Tigers opened the season with a 101-89 victory against Redline Prep. It was Coach Brian Skortz's first win as the Head Coach at Andrew College. It was the debut for Freshman Kordes Swain and Isaiah Lloyd who combined for 54 points and a whopping 33 rebounds both recording their first double-double of the season and of their college careers. Swain had a monster offensive performance scoring 27 points on 12 of 19 shooting along with 21 rebounds. Lloyd also scored 27 points with 12 boards and 5 assists. "The two freshmen stepped up when we needed them the most. Both made key plays offensively when we needed it. in responding to Redline's scoring runs." stated Coach Skortz
Sophomore Trey Crawford also had a double-double with 13 points, 12 boards, and 8 assists. Fellow sophomores Rashod Rouse and Zuryan Williams also scored in double figures with 14 and 11 points respectively. The Fighting Tigers outrebounded their opponents 65-25 having 29 offensive rebounds.
However, the Tigers committed 31 team turnovers and were 19-29 from the foul line. " There are some things we need to clean up in practice before our next game. Turnovers were a problem and it really kept Redline in the game. We need to take better care of the ball and make smarter decisions on the floor. With our style of play, we are going to have some turnovers but we can't be that careless with it. Great teachable moment for us as we get ready for our visit to Enterprise CC on Nov 7th. " added Coach Skortz
The Fighting Tigers are 1-0 on the season and will travel to Enterprise CC on Nov 7.
