Fighting Tigers Fall in 5 Sets

Cuthbert, Ga- Volleyball Loses in 5 sets
The Andrew College Fighting Tigers and the Reinhardt Eagles JV team battled to a five-set match thriller.
In the first set the Eagles had a slow start being down 5 to 7, as for Andrew the service points were going their way with JaMya Evans & Katherine Lowery both with 3 or more serving points in a row. In the set for the Fighting Tigers Ava Dickens had a serve ace. The Eagles did start to come back in the set with Sienna Pierre having two kills and Lacey Smith & Kathryn Bedingfield with a block a piece bringing the score to 12-18. The Eagles Sophomore Kyleigh Powell helped bring back the team only down 1-point serving until the score got to 18-19, where Andrew was only up by 1. The Fighting Tigers did end up winning the set 25-20.
In the second set the Eagles were starting to get into a flow offensively. As Ashlyn Yaskiewicz & Hallie Taylor both had at least one serving ace. Three of the Reinhardt's players (A. Yaskiewicz, Sophia Garramone & Natalie Klein) were aggressive with at least one kill. The Eagles had a lead of 6 to 2 and never looked back in the set. The Fighting Tigers had a few kills by Dickens, Rosaliz Vazquez and Ellie Brannon. While the Tigers were down the entire set, the closest they got to the Eagles was a score of 12 to 8. Defensively the Tigers had a few good digs from Zioneliz Miranda-Perez and a few blocks from Evans. The Eagles did win the set 25 -15.
The third set was more offensive power for the Eagles as five players had one or more kills. The Eagles started the set being up 12-4. The Fighting Tigers tried to slow them down with digs by Perez, Gianna Erazo & Vazquez. The Eagles started to take away the set being up 17 to 5 and ended up winning the set 25-11.
In the fourth set it starts to become a different story, the Fighting Tigers started to force multiple rallies with the Eagles at almost every point in the 4th set. Andrew was up midway into the set with a score of 10 to 8, then the Eagles called a timeout, and the Tigers went on a small run when Reinhardt had to call another time out with the score being 18 to 11. The Eagles did not give up the 4th set that easy as they flew back into the set only being down of a score of 23 to 18. The Tigers did win the 4th 25-18 and forced it to a 5th set.
The last set of the match Reinhardt's Garramone helped the Eagles with a strong 6 to zero early lead. Andrew then called a timeout. The Fighting Tigers fought back making it a score of 10 to 8 but then quickly gave up two points making it 12 to 8. The Reinhardt Eagles did win the 5th set and the match with a score of 15-8.
The next game for the Fighting Tigers is set for Thursday 9/12/2024 at 3pm Est time against Enterprise State Community College located in Enterprise, AL.
