Newberry Open Results

Cuthbert, GA| The Fighting Tigers fought in the Newberry Open on Feb. 2nd to finish the last Open tournament of the Season. The tournament was very competive with teams from every division, including NCAA Division 1 programs. 

Leading the Fighting Tigers was Heavyweight Jabare George with a 4th place finish. George dropped his semi-finals match to a NCAA Division 2 National Qualifier 4-3. He then battled in the consolation-semis winning the bout 2-0 over NCAA Divison 1 competitor from the Citadel. George wrestled tough in the 3/4 place match before ultimately finishing in 4th place dropping the bout late in the third period by a score 2-1.

125lb Corey Dye also had an outstanding tournament on the day going 3-2, losing in the "blood round", which is considered the match before placing. Dye dropped a hard first match to a NCAA Division 1 opponent from Davidson 5-3. He then put together 3 solid matches back-to-back before losing his Cons. Semis bout 7-0. 

Other Fighting Tigers winning matches were Alex Tabb, Clint Gilbert, Riley Brewer, Tim Dunn, Jatavious Williams, and Abe Preston. 

The Fighting Tigers get ready to the last dual meet of the Season as they wrestle Brewton-Parker in Mount. Vernon, GA on Feb. 6th
