3 Tournament Placers at the Hawk Classic

Cuthbert, GA | Coach Gordy and The Fighting Tigers travel to Montgomery, AL to compete in the Hawk Classic Open. "Coming back from Christmas Break can be a challenge trying to get back in the groove of things mentally and physically" states Coach Gordy. As a program we finished in 7th place with 55.5 team points just a few points shy of finishing in the top 5. We had 3 tournaments placers in Amantee Mills, Riley Brewer, and Abe Preston.
Leading the Fighting Tigers was Amantee Mills who finished 1st in the 133lb weight class. Mills tallied 3 wins in the Championship bracket by technical fall winning the match by 15 points or more. In the finals match Mills squared off with Ethan Sellers and was victorius by a Major Decision 19-8.
Riley Brewer capped his day finishing in 3rd place in the 157lb bracket at the Hawk Classic. Brewer padded his record going 4-1 on the day before knocking off Brandon Irigoyen from Lindsey Wilson by a Major decision 13-3 in the 3rd place match.
The last placer for the Fighting Tigers was 285lb Abe Preston finishing in 5th place. Preston went 4-2 on the day losing to the eventual Champion in the Quarterfinals.
Overall it was a decent showing for the Fighting Tigers with 10 guys winning matches at the Hawk Classic. Up next the Fighting Tigers will travel to Cleveland, GA to wrestle Truett-McConnell a NAIA program who is receiving votes in the National Rankings. The match is set for 2:00PM est.
