Fighting Tigers Wresting Fall Short in Home Opener

Cuthbert, Ga- Fighting Tigers Wrestling Fall Short in Home Opener

The Fighting Tigers were at home for their first ever Inaugural match at Andrew College against Huntingdon College. 

In the 125-weight class Andrew's Corey Dye went up against Nicholas Nguyen, as Dye won with a score of 10 to 4. Then in the 133-weight class Alex Tabb went against Hinds Duncan, Tabb won the head-to-head battle with a close margin of 13 to 12. 

For the 141 class, Andrew's Ethan Jones won with by fall with 3:43 left in the 2nd period with a score of 6 to 0. In the 157 class the Fighting Tigers Riley Brewer went up against Huntingdon's Martinez-Antonetty and Brewer won by a major decision score of 16 to 7. 

Huntingdon then won the next four weight classes and took the lead with the overall score going into the last weight class of 285, with a score of 21 to 16. 

The Fighting Tigers Jabare George faced off Steven Flagg in the 285-weight class for the last head-to-head competition of the night. Andrew was down by 5 points so it was all up to George. George gave it all that he could, scoring seven points but Huntingdon's Flagg scored five points. 

The final score was Huntingdon 21 & Andrew College 19. Andrew showed some strong tenacity and battled back but just fell short. The Fighting Tigers are a young program but will keep improving and keep taking steps in the right direction.

The next match for the Fighting Tigers will be on the road at the Rocky Top Duals located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee Saturday 12/14/2024 at 9am EST. 

Andrew College is a NJCAA Div 1 institution located in Cuthbert, GA. The Fighting Tigers sponsor 15 sports and compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association and in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association
