Andrew College softball traveled to Cartersville for a Saturday doubleheader against Georgia Highlands, ultimately dropping both contests despite flashes of resilience at the plate and on the mound.
Game 1: Georgia Highlands 18, Andrew College 3
The Tigers were overwhelmed early as Georgia Highlands put up 17 runs in the first two innings. Despite the tough start, Andrew College showed grit late in the game, putting together a three-run fifth inning to avoid the shutout.
Kaci Thacker led the offense, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Emma Warnock added a hit and VaLaceia Burris reached base three times and swiped a bag. Burris also tossed two scoreless innings in relief, allowing just three hits and striking out one to help slow the Georgia Highlands offense in the latter half.
Game 2: Georgia Highlands 14, Andrew College 0
In Game 2, the Tigers struggled to get the bats going, recording just one hit—again courtesy of Thacker, who remained a steady presence at the plate. Andrew's lone baserunners came via Thacker's single and two walks.
Burris took the circle again and battled through four innings, giving up 12 hits but only 2 earned runs, showing composure against a potent Georgia Highlands lineup.
Andrew College is an NJCAA Div 1 institution located in Cuthbert, GA. The Fighting Tigers sponsor 15 sports and compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association and in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.
