Andrew College Welcomes Former NAIA Champion Carnell Learmond as Head Men’s Soccer Coach
Andrew College Athletics welcomes Carnell Learmond as the department's newly appointed Head Men's Soccer Coach. Athletic Director and Head men's basketball coach Brian Skortz announced the hiring Thursday.
"I'm very excited to be a part of a historic moment with the university transitioning from a two-year program and joining the NAIA. That is a historic moment, so I'm very happy to be a part of that transition and leading the team moving forward," said Learmond.
Learmond brings a wealth of experience not only as a coach but also as a player and administrator. Learmond's most recent experience came as the University of Fort Lauderdale's senior admissions counselor and head men's soccer coach. He also spent time as the J.P. Taravella High School (Coral Springs, Florida) head boys soccer coach during the 2025 season.
Prior to his time in Coral Springs, Learmond served as the Union Commonwealth University head women's soccer coach from 2022-24, the Northeastern Junior College women's assistant soccer coach from 2019-22 and the Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer assistant coach from 2015-16.
Before coaching on the collegiate level, Learmond began his coaching career as the head women's coach at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Florida, from 2014-15.
As a player, Learmond, a native of Jamaica, made appearances with the Under-21 National Team and competed in the National Premier League, the Confederation Cup and with the Sporting Central Academy in Jamaica's Major League.
Learmond went on to attend Lindsey Wilson College, where he appeared in 80 matches, totaling 48 goals, which sit at No. 7 in school history, to go along with 14 assists, while leading the Blue Raiders to the 2009 NAIA national championship. There, he earned all-tournament team honors and multiple offensive player of the week awards. In 2009, he was named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year and an NAIA second-team All-American.
Learmond also suited up as a professional in the Premier Development League, playing for the Indiana Invaders, West Virginia Chaos and Schulz Academy.
In 2004, Learmond led Glenmuir High School to the school's first-ever triple crown, taking home hardware at the Ben Francis Cup, deCosta Cup and Olivier Shield tournaments. He went on to win the Golden Boot Award during the deCosta Cup, capturing the attention of several major brands and teams.
Learmond later secured a once in a lifetime opportunity as part of the Pepsi Goal campaign, featuring players such as Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Lionel Messi. In partnership with Pepsi Jamaica, Learmond was a featured athlete on a limited edition Pepsi bottle. An accomplishment that not only highlights his level of play but displays the worldwide scale of sports and the game of soccer, a perspective he hopes to share with his Fighting Tigers.
"I believe soccer shaped me into a competitor, and not only teaches life values, but also prepared me for who I am today and everything that I do in life," said Learmond. "The values that the sport taught me, those are values that I can pass on to other student athletes who are looking to use the sport as a vehicle to not only earn their education, but to be a part of something bigger than what they are used to, a family."
Due to his extensive time as a player and coaching experience at various competitive levels, Learmond brings a unique blend of dedication, player development and vision to take Andrew College men's soccer to the next level.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Learmond to Andrew College. His strategic approach to recruiting, player development and community engagement will help elevate our program for years to come," said AD Skortz.
