Andrew's 27 Point Comeback Victory vs Southern Crescent Tech

Cuthbert, Ga- Fighting Tigers Make 27 Point Comeback Victory

The Fighting Tigers faced off against the Southern Crescent Technical College Tigers tonight in Griffin, Georgia.

Andrew and Southern Crescent played twice in conference play last year. The Fighting Tigers swept Southern Cresent winning at home by two points and then wining at Southern Crescent by thirteen at their place.

This year Southern Crescent and Andrew had a showdown classic at Southern Crescent's gymnasium tonight. In the first half of the game Southern Crescent could not miss as they shot just over fifty percent from the field scoring 59 points in the half. While Andrew was having a hard time making free throws, as they missed ten of them in the first half. The Fighting Tigers ended out the half scoring only 34 points.

The start of the second half was off to a slow start for both teams but then at the 15:30 mark left in regulation that is when it all started to change for the Fighting Tigers. The score at the 15:30 mark was 69 to 42, Andrew trailing. Andrew then kept clawing back making the Southern Crescent shoot tough shots over the top of them and knocking down shot/getting to the basket and finishing around the rim. Time then became Southern Crescent's enemy as the Fighting Tigers were coming back nothing seemed to go right for them. The Fighting Tigers then tied up the game to go into overtime for a score of 74-74.

Overtime was a very back and forth battle between both teams as neither team wanted to lose and get their first conference win of the season. Late in overtime Sophomore forward Kordes Swain gets the ball at the elbow, takes it to the rack and scores the game winning bucket for Andrew and securing the 27-point comeback victory and stopping the losing streak.

Coach Skortz said this about the win tonight "I am very proud of how we responded in the second half.  We extended pressure defensively which created more possessions for us to attack on the offensive side of the court. Jeremiah really played well in creating shots for himself but for other teammates as well. We still have plenty to work on, but we showed a tremendous amount of grit tonight and got a big win in conference play."

The key players in tonight's win for Andrew is the guard Jeremiah Flournoy as he let the team with 26 points and 9 rebounds & Kordes Swain had 18 points & 10 rebounds.

The next game for the Fighting Tigers will be at home vs Gordon College in the Jinks gymnasium located in Cuthbert, GA on January 29th at 7:00pm Est time.
