Cuthbert, Ga- Fighting Tigers Defense Prevails
The Andrew College Fighting Tigers faced off against the Jacksonville AA Christian College Mocs.
In the first quarter both teams were struggling offensively. The Mocs in the quarter lost 2 fumbles and the Fighting Tigers recovered them. While the offense for the Tigers were forced to do a lot punting and going 3 in out. At the end of the 1st quarter the score was tied at 0-0.
The second quarter is where both teams started to find a groove on both sides of the ball. The Mocs defensively had a big stop when Andrew had the ball on their 11-yard line and stopped them on 4th and 3. As well as with 1:24 left in the quarter Jacksonville's number 24 intercepted the ball and helped the offense score a touchdown with a 12-yard pass. They did go for two points but did not convert it. While the Fighting Tigers Yanis Kasende got the crowd and team going with an interception. Then offensively setting up the score was Tigers running back Nathan Castor with a few good rushes for gains. Right after the 2-minute warning the Quarterback Caver III throws a 47-yard touchdown pass to Jaiden Jones. With 1:30 left on the clock defensive back Khaleb Bridges intercepted the ball but the offense was forced into a 3 in out. The halftime score was 7-6 Andrew in the lead.
After halftime in the 3rd quarter the Fighting Tigers were firing on all cylinders defensively. Bridges gets his second interception of the day when he was defending a Mocs wide receiver halfway in the quarter. The Mots were back receiving a punt and one of the players touched the ball after it hit the ground, while Andrew's Jayden Walker recovered the ball. The pressure didn't stop there from the Fighting Tigers that with 2:25 left in the quarter, Antonio Hardge caught an interception as the ball was intended for a Mocs wide receiver. The offense in the quarter was led by Castor as he had back-to-back rushes of 15-yards and 20 yards. The 3rd quarter ended with a score of 7-6.
In the fourth quarter with 7:17 left in the game Andrew's Anthony Chirombo catches the ball at the Mocs 35-yard line and runs it in for the touchdown. Making the score a 14 to 6 lead. With five minutes left Castor goes for another 20-yard rush. The Mocs defense gets a huge stop on a fourth downplay with 1:53 left. The Mocs number 12 catches the ball and gets a 20-yard gain, putting them on Andrew's 35-yard line. The Mocs have the ball with 11 seconds left on the 10-yard line making it 1st and goal. They pass the ball and it was incomplete and have 5 seconds left on the clock. On the final play of the game the Mocs Quarter back was rushed by the defensive line and threw it away.
The final score of the game ended with the Fighting Tigers score of 14 and the Jacksonville AA Christian College Mocs 6.
The next game for the Fighting Tigers is at Clayton State and will start on Saturday 9/21/2024 at 3pm EST time.
