CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College softball team played two very different games on Monday at the Hord Athletic Complex, taking a ho-hum 5-0 win in game one, then rallying from 7-0 down in the 4th inning to force extra innings, falling behind again 8-7 in the top of the 8th inning, before Abigail McIntosh doubled in two runs in the bottom of the 8th, to give the Tigers a 9-8 walk-off win and their first sweep of the year.
Rebecca Johnson dominated in game one, tossing a complete game shutout, scattering 7 hits in 7 innings while striking out 1, to secure her 4th win of the season. The Lady Tigers were paced on offense by McIntosh who went 3 for 3 and scored twice, Adriana Olguin was 2 for 3 with a run scored and 2 RBI, and Taylor Knight and Lindsey Mitchell each singled in a run in the 5-0 win.
Down 7-0 in the bottom of the 4th inning of game two, the Tigers started to crawl back, putting up 2 runs in the 4th and 5th innings, then tying the game in the bottom of the 7th inning to force extra innings. Down 8-7 entering the bottom of the 8th inning, the Tigers loaded the bases, and with two outs, and two strikes on McIntosh, she lined a shot down the 1st base line, doubling in the tying and winning runs for the walk-off 9-8 win. McIntosh finished 4 for 5, homered and doubled, scored a pair of runs, and had 4 RBI, Carrie McWaters went 3 for 5, also homered and doubled, scored twice, and drove in pair of runs. Johnson went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI, Calie Barber picked up the win in the circle and went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI, and Knight went 2 for 5, as the Tigers pounded out 15 hits.
Andrew opens GCAA play against Gordon State on Tuesday in a 1:00 pm doubleheader.
