Sheffield and Heimback Ink Four Year College Scholarships
CUTHBERT, Ga. -- Andrew College Softball Head Coach Kayla Williams gathered teammates today in the Jinks Gymnasium for a signing ceremony for sophomores Taylor Sheffield and Angela Heimback. Sheffield will move on to Middle Georgia State University, while Heimback is headed to Point University.
Sheffield, a shortstop from Warner Robins, GA and Northside High School, is a two year starter who has pounded out 122 hits in 110 games, including 23 doubles and 3 triples, scoring 82 runs and batting a robust .355. She split her freshman year as a catcher and shortstop, before settling into the starting shortstop for her sophomore year. Middle Georgia State is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Southern States Athletics Confernce (SSAC). The main campus is located in Macon, GA, has 7,900 students, and play intercollegiate athletics at the Cochran, GA campus. Head Coach Ken Phillips will enter his 18th season next year and Lady Knights are preparing for the SSAC Softball Tournament, being played at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, AL on May 3-5. Heimback, a third baseman from Fayetteville, GA and Whitewater High School, has been a starter as soon she stepped on campus. She's hit .303 over 110 games, belting 12 homeruns, driving in 67 runs, and amassing a staggering 236 assists from her third base position. Point University is also an NAIA institution and a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Point University is located in West Point, GA, has 1,600 students, and was originally founded as Atlanta Christian College in East Point, GA before relocating to West Point in 2012. Head Coach Jennifer Perkins Tyler will start her 8th season next year, and is currently playing in the AAC playoffs at the Brickyard Ball Fields in Kingsport, TN.
