TIFTON, Ga. -- The Lady Tigers got complete games from Charlie Smith and Sharmaine White in the circle and blasted 3 homeruns in game two, to sweep ABAC in Tifton on Friday night, taking game one 3-1, then pounding out a mercy-rule shortened 10-1 win in game two.
Smith was sharp all day in game one, allowing just 2 hits, while striking out 6, and allowing an unearned run in picking up her 12th win of the season. The 12 wins places her 2nd in the GCAA, just 1 win out of 1st place. Katelynn Simpson went 3 for 4 and drove in a run, Maci Townsend was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Madison Beazley added a 1 for 3 with an RBI to pace the Tiger offense.
White allowed just 3 hits and 1 run in 5 innings to pick up her 3rd win on the season, and the Tigers unloaded early and often in game two, scoring 3 runs in the 1st, 4 runs in the 2nd, then 3 more runs in the 4th inning to bring about an early end to the game. Angela Heimback bombed her GCAA-leading 9th homerun and team-leading 35th RBI with a 3-run homer in the 1st, Kierra West belted her 6th homerun in the 2nd inning, another 3-run drive, then the Tigers went back-to-back as Simpson followed with her 4th homer. Taylor Sheffield went 2 for 2, walked twice and scored 3 times, giving her a team-leading 35 runs scored on the year. Cheyenne Tillman went 2 for 3, stroked her team-leading 13th double, and scored twice, and Madison Whitehead was 1 for 1 with a 2-RBI triple.
The sweep moves the Lady Tigers to 5-6 in the GCAA and their 18 overall wins continues their assault on the record books, as each win sets a new record for wins in a single season, eclipsing the previous mark of 13 wins.
The Tigers will be at the Hord Athletic Complex for a doubleheader against the LaGrange College JV on Tuesday, first game is at 4:00 pm.
