CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The Andrew College softball team split a doubleheader with West Ga. Tech on Tuesday, taking game one 5-4 in extra innings, then dropped game two 9-8, to even their Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) record at 4-4. Freshman catcher Ryla Christian belted 3 home runs and had 9 RBI in the doubleheader, fellow freshman catcher Carrie McWaters added her second homer of the season, and McKenzie LaCount picked up her 6th win in the circle, as the Lady Tigers maintained their two-game lead for a playoff spot.
LaCount tossed her 6th complete game of the year in game one, scattering 7 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 3, in the back and forth affair. Andrew pounded out 12 hits with Rebecca Johnson, McWaters, and LaCount all going 2 for 4, including McWaters solo shot, and Christian's 3-run drive in the top of the 6th inning, that gave the Tigers a 4-3 lead at the time. Marie Goswick drove in the go ahead run in the top of the 8th inning with an RBI groundout.
Christian led the Tiger offense in game two, going 4 for 4 with 2 homers and 6 RBI, McWaters went 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Abigail McIntosh had a pair of hits, but Andrew couldn't hold the three run lead following Christian's second homer in the top of the 6th inning. Christian continues to set the pace in the GCAA offensive categories, still atop the batting average (.475), home runs (10), and RBI categories (35), by a wide margin. Click HERE for stats.
