Andrew Volleyball and Trevor Wren Receive Proclamation From City of Columbus, GA

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- At the regularly scheduled City Council meeting in Columbus, GA on September 4, 2018, the members of the Andrew College Volleyball team, Head Coach Donna Rountree, and Assistant Baseball Coach Trevor Wren were recognized, and given a Proclamation from the city, for recognition of their heroic efforts in helping assist accident victims on I-185 near Columbus, on the night of August 22, 2018.

Heading home from Wadley, AL after a volleyball match against Southern Union Community College, the team, with Wren driving, were traveling south on Interstate 185, when a vehicle came across the median and struck the minivan right in front of the Andrew College van. Wren immediately pulled the van over and proceeded to remove three victims from the minivan, while the members of the team called 911 and began to assist Fire and Rescue personnel when they arrived. Head Coach Donna Rountree ran to the other vehicle, where a woman was trapped, with smoke was pouring from the floor board, when the front of the car burst into flames. Struggling to open the door, another motorist assisted Rountree in getting the door opened and they pulled the woman to safety near the Andrew College van.

Andrew College President Linda Buchanan, Andrew College Vice-President for Advancement/Development Spencer Sealy and Andrew College Board Member Gene Kemp attended the meeting, representing the college, as well as Rountree, team members Taylor Barnes, Maris Guzman, India Roper, Kennedy Jackson, Ellie Wortham, Chakierra Sibert, Oriyana Babauta, and team managers Breahna O'Shield and DeSeanvia Johnson.
