Andrew Women's Soccer Team Picks Up Post Season Honors

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Women's Soccer All-Region 1st and 2nd teams were selected from the 2018 season along with the Player of the Year and Coach of the Year selections by the women's soccer coaches, and Andrew College landed two players on both the 1st and 2nd teams. Midfielder Chandler Elliott and goal keeper Sophia LaMar were 1st team All-Region selections, while defender Deirra Taylor and midfielder Tori Rodriguez were named 2nd team All-Region.

Elliott, a sophomore from Marathon, FL and Marathon High School, has been the offensive leader for the Lady Tigers, both years in Cuthbert. She led the team in goals with 6 (5th in the GCAA), points with 12, and shots with 43 in her sophomore year, culminating in 28 games, all starts, 11 goals, 3 assists, and 25 points for her career. She was named GCAA Player of the Week for Week 8.

LaMar, a freshman from Jefferson, GA and Jefferson High School, led the GCAA with 150 saves on the year, second place was 125 saves, posting a 3.23 Goals Against Avg. and a Save Percentage of .769. A vocal leader from the goal, she helped keep the defense organized all season. She was named GCAA Player of the Week for Week 4.

Taylor, a sophomore from Marietta, GA and Marietta High School has been a standout defender, both on the back line and midfield throughout her entire Tiger career. She made 29 starts in 30 appearances for Andrew, and was known for her toughness and speed, usually taking on players much bigger than herself, and more than holding her own.

Rodriguez, a sophomore from Leesburg, FL and Leesburg High School, moved through the forward spot in her freshman year, where scored 4 goals on 31 shots, to a more holding midfielder in her sophomore campaign. She started all 27 games she appeared in, showing a fearlessness against even the biggest of players, and a burst of speed that negated many chances.

Head Coach Katie Brasher commented on her four honorees, "These four girls proved to be vital assets to our team this year. We were and currently still are in a season of transition, and they all stepped up as leaders on the field and gave their best for their teammates. I am sad to see the sophomores go, but am so thankful for their contribution to our program, and am excited to see them continue succeeding in the future!"
