Courtney Pritchett Honored In Hometown
UNION SPRINGS, Ala.-- Andrew College head women's basketball coach Courtney Pritchett was honored with the Y. C. Nances Sportsman Award. Each year the memorial foundation of Y. C. Nance recognized a member of the community that has given selflessly to improve the community of Union Springs. The 12thAnnual Bullock County Achievers Awards Banquet was held on September 17, 2017 by the Y. C. Nance Memorial Foundation.
The winners were chosen by the Y.C. Nance Memorial Foundation board of selectors, which based its decisions on community involvement that closely resembled those passions of Y. C. Nance. Mr. Nance was also a civic leader and was extremely involved with the schools in Bullock County. He helped organize the first Quarterback Club and Band Boosters club at Carver High in 1959. He served as president of both organization, as well as PTA, for several years. Under his leadership, the Quarterback Club purchased new uniforms for the fledgling football team, and the Band Boosters Club purchased instruments and school's first band uniforms.
Pritchett " Just another platform that God has given me to give Him glory, I never ask for any recognition for helping my home but it does feel good to know that what a person does to make their hometown better is appreciated. To be considered in the ranks of great men like Y.C. Nance is amazing. As a child I remember playing youth baseball and at that time I had no idea that Y. C. Nance had to fight to breakdown walls in order for me to enjoy that pleasure. I am grateful for everyone who thought of me and honored me on this day."
