Women's Basketball Sends 5 Players to Four-Year Institutions

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- Head Coach Courtney Pritchett gathered five of his sophomores in the Jinks Gymnasium for a signing ceremony today, highlighting Andrew College's continued excellence in providing academic and athletic opportunities for its student-athletes. The sophomore class led the Lady Tigers to set the single season win total of 13, won a pair of GCAA Div. I Player of the Week Awards, earned an All-Region honor, and set the record for points scored per game by averaging a whopping 70.3 points a game. 

Patra Parris, Raegine Newkirk, Santasia Faust, Melia Jones, and Tynicia McCoy will all take their games to the next level, a sign that talent continues to flow through the program.

Parris, a post player from Bainbridge, Ga., had one of the best individual seasons in Andrew history, averaging 15.8 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game, shot 46% from the field, started all 29 games for the Tigers, won two GCAA Div. I Player of the Week Awards, and was named 2nd Team All-Region by the coaches. Parris will play at Georgia Southwestern University next year, a NCAA Div. II school in Americus, Ga., that participates in the highly-respected Peach Belt Conference. The Lady Canes are coached by nine-year veteran Kelly Britsky.

McCoy, a shooting guard from Blakely, Ga., led the Tigers in scoring this season, averaging 16.0 points per game, started all 29 games, played the most minutes at 656, shot 27% from 3-point land, and 75% from the free-throw line, and pulled down 4.8 rebounds per game. McCoy will play next year at Albany State University, also a NCAA Div. II school in Albany, Ga., that participates in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Lady Rams are led by Robert Skinner, who will enter his 28th season as head coach next year, having won 3 SIAC titles, and made 3 NCAA Tournaments, his latest coming in 2014-15.

Faust, a wing from Douglasville, Ga., was 3rd on the team in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game, while also averaging 7.2 rebounds per game, led the Lady Tigers in assists with 2.6 per game, and steals with 3.2 per game, and was named to the GCAA All-tournament Team. Faust will play next year at Concordia College a NAIA Div. I school in Selma, Ala., that also participates in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association(USCAA). The Lady Hornets are coached by Howard White, Jr. and are back-to-back National Champions in the USCAA.

Jones, a guard from Columbus, Ga., logged a season-high 12 points against Southern Crescent Technical College, played in all 29 games, starting 3, and was generally assigned to the opposing teams best back court scorer when she was on the floor.. Jones will also attend Concordia College.

Newkirk, a post player from Lawrenceville, Ga., played in 27 games this season and recorded a season-high 6 points against Oakwood College and 8 boards against Central Ga. Tech. Newkirk will play next season at Piedmont College, a NCAA Div. III school in Demorest, Ga., that participates in the USA South Athletic Conference. The Lady Lions are coached by Jamie Purdy, who will begin her 13th season at Piedmont next year.
