Andrew Softball Spilts With Ga Highlands; Culp & Strayer Go Deep

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- The Andrew College softball team picked up another road split in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA), taking down Georgia Highlands 9-6 in the opener, before dropping the nightcap 7-5 in Cartersville, GA on Tuesday afternoon. The 9-6 win was the first victory over the traditionally strong Lady Chargers in program history. 

The Lady Tigers broke a 6-6 tie with 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning, and closed out Highlands in the bottom half, to pick up their 2nd GCAA win on the young season. Taryn Strayer paced the Tiger attack, going 3 for 5 with her second homer of the year and drove in 3 runs, Emily Phillips was 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles, and drove in her team-leading 17th RBI, Alexis Copeland went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, Sarah Culp and Demonee Miles were 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Kylie Guidas went 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Hailey Stovall was 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored, as the Tigers pounded out 17 hits, while Dale Elmore picked up her 5th win of the year with 6.1 innings of work.   

In the nightcap, Andrew jumped out to a 4-0 lead, fell behind 7-4, then rallied for 2 runs in the top of 7th inning, before falling just short with the tying run on base. Culp belted her team-leading 4th home run of the year with a pair of runs scored and 2 RBI, Phillips was 2 for 2 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI, Allyson Lanford went 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Brianna Neese was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Andrew is back on the road in GCAA play on Saturday, traveling to Milledgeville, GA for a 1:00 pm doubleheader against Georgia Military College.
