Lady Tigers Split Conference Opener With Gordon; Elmore Sharp in the Circle

BARNESVILLE, Ga. -- The Andrew College softball team opened Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) play against Gordon State, on the road in Barnesville, GA on Thursday, dropping the opener 14-6, then getting a dominating performance from starting pitcher Dale Elmore to take the nightcap 5-2.   

Trailing 1-0 entering the top of the 5th inning in game two, Andrew erupted for 5 runs, and Elmore made it stand up, tossing 7.0 innings while scattering 6 hits, and striking out 4 to pick up her third win of the year. Hailey Stovall drove in a pair of runs, Demonee Miles and Allyson Lanford each singled in a run, and Elmore and Kylie Guidas each singled and scored, as the Lady Tigers pushed across 5 runs on just 4 hits fr the 5-2 win. 

After building a 6-1 lead through the top of the 4th inning in the opener, the Tigers couldn't hold off the Lady Highlanders, allowing 5 runs in the 4th and 5th innings, then 3 more in the 6th inning, and falling 14-6. Taryn Strayer went 3 for 4 with a double and a pair of RBI, Emily Phillips was 2 for 3 with her 2nd homer of the season, a run scored and an RBI, Sarah Culp added a 2 for 4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI, and Brianna Neese singled in a run.

Andrew is back at the Hord Athletic Complex on Monday, taking on Thomas Univ. JV in a non-conference 2:00 pm doubleheader.
