Softball Splits With CVCC (AL); Phillips, Culp Go Deep

PHENIX CITY, Ala. -- The Andrew College softball team split a doubleheader against Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC) in Phenix City on Tuesday, dropping the opener 10-2, then rallied for 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning in game two, and starter Dale Elmore made it stand up, shutting the door on the Lady Pirates for the 4-3 win in the nightcap.

The Tigers took an early lead in game two on a solo homer from Emily Phillips, then CVCC battled back to take a 3-1 lead heading into the top of the 6th inning. Hailey Stovall led off the 6th with a sharp single to left, then Sarah Culp belted her team-leading 3rd homer of the year to tie the game at 3-3. Taryn Strayer followed with her second hit of the game, and eventually scored the go ahead run on an RBI groundout from Brianna Neese. Elmore scattered 7 hits in her complete game effort, striking out 5 batters to record her 2nd win of the year. Strayer ended up going 2 for 3 with a run scored, Culp was 1 for 4 with a homer and 2 RBI, and Phillips was also 1 for 4 with a homer and an RBI. Stovall was 2 for 3 in the opener, while Phillips singled in a run, but Andrew could only muster a pair of runs on seven hits.

The Lady Tigers are off for nine days, returning to the Hord Complex on March 10 for a 1:00 pm doubleheader against the Thomas Univ. JV.
