Lady Tigers Open GCAA Play With Split of Gordon State College

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College softball team began Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) play on Wednesday at the Hord Athletic Complex versus Gordon State College, dropping game one 8-6, then taking the nightcap 7-4. The split runs their overall record to 8-11, while their GCAA record now stands at 1-1.

Game one saw the Tigers fall behind 7-2 after 4 innings, and despite a 4-run rally in the bottom of the 5th inning, fell short as Gordon added an insurance run in the top of the 7th inning to seal the win. Andrew banged out 11 hits, led by Rebecca Johnson, who went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 RBI, and Kaylan Pruitt went 2 for 4 with a run scored to pace the Tiger attack.  

Andrew jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, then retook the lead for good in the bottom of the 2nd inning, and pulled away for the 7-4 win in game two. Rebecca Johnson (4-3) picked up her 4th straight win in the circle, scattering 9 hits and allowing 3 earned runs in 5.2 innings, then Kaylee Hughes shut down a 2-run rally by Gordon in the top of the 6th inning, to earn her 2nd save of the season. Pruitt, Ryla Christian, Kaitlyn Classon, Abigail McIntosh, and Megan Carlson all had a pair of hits in game two, with Pruitt doubling and scoring twice, Christian doubling and driving in two runs, Classon doubling, scoring once and driving in one run, McIntosh driving in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Carlson scoring once. 

The Lady Tigers travel to Georgia Military College for a doubleheader on Friday at 4:00 pm.
