Andrew College Softball Opens With Split Against Central Alabama

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- With the season opener washed out due to wet playing conditions at LaGrange College JV on Friday, the Andrew College Lady Fighting Tigers finally kicked of the 2019 season with a split against Central Alabama Community College, taking game one 2-1 behind a strong effort in the circle from McKenzie LaCount, before dropping the nightcap 6-1, at the Hord Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

In game one, LaCount scattered nine hits over 7 innings, allowing just 1 run, while striking out 1 in the complete game victory, earning her 1st collegiate win. Carrie McWaters  went 2 for 3, driving in the go-ahead  run in the bottom of the 5th inning with a one-out, sharp single to right, Kaylan Pruitt went 2 for 3 and scored a run, and Abigail McIntosh went 1 for 2 and scored a run to pace the Tiger attack. Andrew banged out 8 hits overall and played error-free softball, in the 2-1 win.

Game two was tied 1-1 heading into the 4th inning, before the visiting Lady Trojans posted a pair of runs in the frame, then put the game away with 3 more runs in the 6th inning.  Andrew pounded out another 8 hits in the game, but the big hit eluded them, stranding 7 runners on base.  Pruitt had another pair of hits in the game, Ryla Christian drove in the Tigers only run with a single, Kaitlyn Classon, Rebecca Johnson, Logan Stinson, and McIntosh all had a hit apiece, with McIntosh scoring the only run for Andrew.  Johnson took the loss in the circle.

The Lady Fighting Tigers travel to Thomasville, GA on Wednesday to take on the Thomas University JV in a doubleheader, then come back to the Hord Athletic Complex on Friday for a doubleheader against the LaGrange College JV, first game at 2:00 pm.
