Andrew Softball Puts 8 on NJCAA All-Academic Teams

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- Head Coach Kayla Williams announced today the eight players who were named to NJCAA All-Academic Teams as follows: 1st Team NJCAA All-Academic - Megan Carlson, Erin Ragan, and Devin Weaver, 2nd Team NJCAA All-Academic - Kacie Fincher and Jordyn Sumner, and 3rd Team NJCAA All-Academic - Kenley Kennedy, Taylor Sheffield, and Madison Logan.

Below is a listing of the three NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athlete Awards with the qualifying grade-point average for each honor:

NJCAA All-Academic First Team: 4.00 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Second Team3.80-3.99 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Third Team3.60-3.79 GPA

 Carlson, a freshman from Jefferson, GA and Jefferson High School played in 18 games this season, primarily as a defensive specialist and pinch runner. Ragan, another freshman, this time from Edison, GA and Southwest Georgia Academy, played in 26 games this year, picking up 10 hits, including a pair of doubles and a home run, while also making 4 appearances in the circle. Weaver, a freshman from Woodstock, GA and Woodstock High School, played in 45 games this year, hitting .284 on 31 hits, including 7 doubles, 3 home runs, and drove in 20 RBI, mostly from her catcher's spot. Fincher, a freshman from Covington, GA and Eastside High School, appeared in 21 games this year, including 5 in the circle, where she logged a 2.25 ERA, and banged out 8 hits and had 4 RBI at the plate. Sumner, a freshman from Sumner, GA and Tiftarea High School played in 19 games, mostly as a pinch runner and also picked up 3 hits at the plate. Kennedy, a sophomore from Blakely, GA and Early County High School, played in 49 games this year, all in center field and in the lead-off position where she banged out 43 hits, including 6 doubles, a triple, and 3 home runs, scored 33 runs and had 12 stolen bases. Sheffield, a sophomore from Warner Robins, GA and Northside High School, played shortstop in all 53 games this year, leading the team in hits with 65, runs with 38, and average with .399. She will play next year at Middle Georgia State, an NAIA school in Coachran, GA, that plays in the rugged Southern States Conference. Logan, a sophomore from Carrollton, GA and Mt. Zion High School, made the second most appearances in the circle this year with 28, including 13 starts, as she logged 70 innings, and picked up a pair of wins.
