Simpson Leads Lady Tigers to Road Sweep of ABAC

TIFTON, Ga. -- The Lady Tigers got back into the GCAA playoff race with an impressive road sweep of ABAC on Friday, taking game one 9-7, then prevailing 3-1 in the nightcap. The victories pulled the Tigers to within 3 games of the fourth and final playoff spot, halfway through the conference season.

Charlie Smith picked up her 8th win in the circle in game one, as well as going 2 for 4 with an RBI at the plate, while Katelynn Simpson led the offense, going 2 for 5, hitting her team-leading 4th homer on the year, and picking up 4 RBI. Angela Heimback went 3 for 3, with a double and a triple, and drove in 2 runs, while Kaylan Pruitt and Ashtyn Bray each had a pair of hits and an RBI to round out the offense. Smith, Simpson, and Heimback lead the Tigers with 20 RBI each for the season.

Madison Logan pitched a complete game gem in game two, scattering 7 hits, while allowing just 1 run and striking out 1, to pick up her second win of the season. The Tigers managed just 6 hits in the game, with Smith driving in a pair of runs, and Simpson going 2 for 4 and scoring twice, but it was enough behind the strong outing from Logan.

The Tigers travel to Phenix City, AL on Monday for a make-up doubleheader with CVCC. First game is at 3:00 pm.
