Charlie Smith Picks Up Her 14th Win on the Season

Smith Wins 9th Game of the Season; Lady Tigers Split with CVCC

PHENIX CITY, Ala. -- After a couple of venue changes due to wet fields, the Lady Tigers finally finished up their season series with the CVCC (AL) Lady Pirates as Charlie Smith tossed a no-hitter to win game one 3-1, before the the Tigers dropped the nightcap 6-5. Prior to the regularly scheduled doubleheader, the teams completed the suspended game from February 7th, with CVCC posting an 8-1 win. The two teams split their four games this spring.

The Tigers jumped out early in game one, with Cheyenne Tillman doubling in one run and Smith singling in another in the top of the 1st inning, added another run in the 3rd, and cruised behind Smith, who only allowed 3 baserunners and one unearned run, for the 3-1 win. The win moves Smith's record to 9-5 on the season. Tillman went 2 for 4, with 2 runs scored and an RBI, and Shaeline Browne went 2 for 3.

In game two, the Lady Tigers pounded out 13 hits, scored 3 runs in the top of the 6th to take a 5-4 lead, before allowing 2 runs in the bottom half, and fell 6-5. Taylor Sheffield and Kaitlyn Smith both had a pair of hits and 2-RBI, Kierra West went 3 for 4, and Kenley Kennedy had 2 hits, including a double, with 1-RBI to pace the offense.

The Lady Tigers get back into GCAA play this weekend, with a doubleheader at Georgia Highlands on Friday, and a doubleheader at West Georgia Tech on Saturday.
