Former Tiger Golfer Andreas Tancred Posts 1st Professional Win

ALGARVE, Portugal -- Former Andrew College men's golfer Andreas Tancred picked up his first professional win this week, taking the Penina Classic II by firing rounds of 67-68=135(-11), to win by 3 strokes.The Penina Classic is part of the Portugal Pro Golf Tour, and was hosted by the Penina Hotel and Golf Resort in Algarve, Portugal. The course is  6,912 yds. and plays to a Par 73. Tancred started the round tied atop the leaderboard at -6 with eventual runner-up Dan Smith.

Tancred, in the summer of 2018, advanced through a sectional qualifier of the British Open (formarlly known as The Open Championship) and competed in one of the four Final Qualifying tournaments, falling just short of a coveted British Open spot.

Tancred had a stellar career at Andrew College. One of the top golfers in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA), Tancred ranked as the no. 1 player in his region and fifth-ranked overall in the country. At the conclusion of the fall season of his sophomore year, Tancred had posted a 70.75 stroke average over three tournaments and was no. 14 on Golfstat's Top-100 NJCAA Players to Watch. His top performance came at the Dale Dover Invitational where he tied for first with scores of 69-73-66 for a 54-hole total of 208. He was named a NJCAA Division II PING All-American (2nd team), after being named an All-Region selection in his freshman year. He went on to play his final two years at Lynn University, an NCAA Div. II power in Boca Raton, FL.
