Tyler Erwin Advances to National Tournament; Tigers Finish 3rd in District J
GRAMLING, S. Car. -- With a wet course pushing the NJCAA District J Golf Tournament into a one day, 36-hole affair, Tyler Erwin pumped out a 76 in round 1, then followed that up with a blistering 1 under par 71 to shoot 147 and earned a place in the individual competition at the 2017 NJCAA Div. II National Golf Championships in Mesa, AZ from May 23-26. The Tigers as a team shot 313-297= 610 and finished 3rd in tournament, that was played at the Village Green Country Club and was hosted by Region 10. The Tigers shot the 3rd lowest team round (297) in the entire tournament, but just missed a berth in the team competition at the national tournament.
Jacob Whann shot 79-74= 153, Brett Ammons carded an 80-75=155, while Erik Sundstrom and Anthony Whobrey both signed for a 79-77=156 to round out the Tiger scoring.
Erwin will return home for two weeks, as school lets out on May 12, then will head to Mesa with Head Coach Aaron Feyes to compete in the four-round tournament that is being held at the Longbow Golf Club.
