Tigers Throttle Central Georgia Tech 78-65

MACON, Ga. – The Andrew College men's team started fast, racing out to a 44-24 halftime lead, and then put the clamps on a comeback, knocking off the 1st place team in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA), Central Georgia Tech, at their place, 78-65, on Saturday afternoon. The win runs the Tigers overall record to 21-7 (another program record for wins), and 9-5 in the GCAA. Andrew is now in a three-way tie for second place, just ½ game out of 1st place, with two to play.

Kristian Collins was high scorer for Andrew, pumping in 23 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the field, including 5 of 6 on 3-pt attempts, while pulling down 4 rebounds and blocking 2 shots. Jalin Wimberly added 20 points, grabbed 6 boards, dished out 5 assists, and had a pair of steals. Moses Jones chipped in 10 points and 2 steals, Dereck Lampkin had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, Marcus Kirkland put up 7 points and 4 boards, and Jordan Booker came off the bench to score 5 points and posted a game-high 6 steals. The Tigers shot a very efficient 54% from both the field (27-50), and 3-pt attempts (7-13), while holding Central Ga. Tech to just 39% (23-59) from the field and a woeful 24% (5-21) on 3-pt. attempts. Andrew's suffocating defense held the Titans 14 points below their season average.

Head Coach Justin Newton commented on his teams' effort, saying, "I'm not sure it's the best game we've played all year, but it was the best game we've played, considering all the circumstances involved; them being in 1st place, at their place, in front of a Sophomore Appreciation Day crowd, and we just executed our plan. Effort, a sense of team, not an ounce of selfishness, and a quiet confidence that continues to grow, has propelled this late season surge. We are looking at Southern Crescent Tech right now, and that is all. We're excited."

The Tigers travel to Griffin, GA on Wednesday night for another big GCAA matchup against Southern Crescent Tech. Tipoff is at 6:00 pm.
