Tigers Roar Back In 2nd Half; Pound Southern Crescent Tech 66-53

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- Down 31-30 at halftime on Saturday to Southern Crescent Tech, in the Jinks Gymnasium, the Andrew College men's basketball team, turned up the defensive pressure in the 2nd half, forcing 18 turnovers and holding the visitors to only 31% shooting from the field, as the Tigers cruised to a 66-52 win. The victory snaps a three game losing streak and lifts their overall record to 15-5 and 4-3 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Conference (GCAA), good for 5th place, just one game out of hosting a playoff match up.

Jalin Wimberly again led Andrew in scoring, posting 15 points, while pulling down 6 rebounds and dealing out a game-high 6 assists. Dereck Lampkin added 10 points and 7 rebounds, Keith Littles came off the bench to score 8 points, Tim Williamson and Kristian Collins each chipped in 7 points, with Williamson dishing out 5 assists, and Marcus Kirkland put up 6 points and pulled down 3 boards in the effort. Head Coach Justin Newton singled out Javen Whitehead for his play in the game, where he scored 7 points, pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds (along with Dereck Lampkin), and had 4 huge blocks, stating, "What Javen brought to the effort doesn't always show up in the stat sheet. Altering shots, setting picks, and playing tough defense against their best post player are just a few of those things. He made up his mind, he was going to do whatever it took within his role to help his team, and he was huge in the win."

The Tigers travel to 1st place Georgia Highlands College on Wednesday in Rome, GA. Tip off is at 7:30 pm
