Tigers Extend Win Streak To Seven; Beat South Ga. State 74-71

WAYCROSS, Ga. -- The Andrew College men's basketball team, fresh off their first-ever national recognition in the NJCAA Div. I rankings, extended their winning streak to seven games on Wednesday night, knocking off fellow Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) foe, South Georgia State 74-71 in Waycross, running their overall record to 13-2 and GCAA record to 2-0. Head Coach Justin Newton and Assistant Coach Jamison Williams have a history with South Georgia State and their Head Coach Cory Baldwin. Newton was the lead assistant for Baldwin in 2013-2015, and Williams played for Baldwin in 2014-2016. Coach Newton spoke on their relationship, "Coach Baldwin has been a great friend and mentor and it was really cool to go back where it all started and compete against a great program in Waycross, GA at a place that has been like a second home to me and my family"

The Tigers got the second double-double of the season from Jalin Wimberly, who poured in 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, Kristian Collins added 17 points and 6 rebounds, Dereck Lampkin chipped in with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, and Jordan Booker came off the bench to put in 6 points and dished out 4 assists.

Head Coach Justin Newton remarked after the game, "Obviously, Jalin stands out on the stats sheet and did a phenominal job as one of the best players in the GCAA, as well as Kristian, but it was a total team effort. Tim Williamson and Jordan Booker handled full-court pressure for 40 minutes, Marcus Kirkland made 3 huge plays down the stretch, a 3-pt basket, an offensive rebound that resulted in a made three for Wimberly, and made two free throws to ice the game, Lampkin had some big-time finishes at the rim, and has been our best defender, by far, through 15 games, Solomon Hall posted a pair of blocks and gave us productive minutes off the bench."
