Owens Leads Tigers Back; Roll Over Atlanta Metro 68-50

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Tigers opened GCAA play Wednesday night in the Jinks Gymnasium by falling behind by 7 points, 29-22, in the 1st half to the visiting TrailBlazers of Atlanta Metro. After halftime, though, the Tigers turned up the pressure on defense, attacked the rim with passion, and shot the lights out, roaring back to outscore Metro 46-21 in the 2nd half, and cruised to a 68-50 win. The victory raises the Tigers overall record to 7-6 and conference record to 1-0.

Ijon Owens paced the Tigers offense, pouring in 21 points while adding a team-high 4 assists and 3 steals. Dereck Lampkin posted his second double-double of the year, pumping in 18 points and pulling down 18 boards, adding 2 steals and 2 assists, and Ja'quan Daniels also added his second double-double of the year, scoring 10 points, adding 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Jahir Joyner chipped in 9 points and 3 assists, while Marcus Kirkland added 7 points, along with a pair of steals and assists.

The Tigers return to Jinks on Saturday with a match up versus South Georgia Tech, tip off at 4:00 pm
