Tiger Baseball Splits With Thomas University JV in Season Opener

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College baseball team split it's season-opening doubleheader with the Thomas University JV on Tuesday night at the Hord Athletic Complex, taking game one 13-12, before dropping the nightcap 9-7.

The Tigers pounded out 13 hits in the opener, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, to overcome a three-run deficit and held on for the 13-12 win. Kyle Kuramoto went 3 for 3 with a 2-run homer, 4 runs scored,and a pair of RBI, Ben Crawley was 3 for 4 with a run scored and 3 RBI, Jack Hay went 2 for 4 with a double and 4 RBI, and Brayden Eavenson was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Garrett Green struck out two in 1.1 innings to pick up the win, and Seth Crowe set the order down in the 7th inning, to pick up his 1st save.

Andrew jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game two, but couldn't hold on the lead, and fell 9-7. Hay was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI, Kuramoto doubled twice and scored twice, J.T. Whatley and Crowley each singled in a run, and Logan Sharpton absorbed the loss despite striking out 7 in 2.2 innings.

The Tigers travel to Panama City, FL this weekend for the massive Panama City Beach NJCAA Classic, where 16 teams, including 10 teams who were nationally-ranked last year, will play a unique tournament format, starting on February 4. Andrew will take on State College of Florida-Manatee-Sarasota at 2:00 pm. Each team is guaranteed four games, which is not unique to early season tournaments, but the Classic will "eliminate" teams that will be eligible for the championship game, resulting in a pair of unbeaten teams playing on Sunday for the tournament winner.
