Tigers Roll South Ga. State 10-4; Advance to Semis; Equal Team Record 32 Wins in Single Season

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College baseball team set a team record earlier in the day, with three Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) 1st Team All-Region players, then went out and put away South Georgia State 10-4 on Friday at the Hord Athletic Complex, tying the single season record for wins in Andrew Baseball history with 32, equaling the mark set back in 2007. Outfielders Kaleb Podger and Jacob Pierce, and Designated Hitter Jack Hay were all named GCAA 1st Team All-Region, and second baseman Jake Edwards was named GCAA 2nd Team All-Region. In addition, Podger was named the GCAA Player of the Year, a first for Andrew Baseball, Pierce was named the GCAA Defensive Player of the Year, and Podger, Pierce, Edwards, along with pitcher Jonah Stout were named to the GCAA Gold Glove Team.

After a bumpy start, Stout settled in and tossed 7 innings, scattering 9 hits, and left the game with the Tigers comfortably ahead 10-4, and Alex Jarrell finished up, fanning 3 in 2 innings, as the 10-4 win puts Andrew in the GCAA Semis, where they will take on #2 seed Gordon State in a nine inning game on Sunday in Barnesville, GA at 2:00 pm. The bottom of the Tiger lineup did the most damage offensively, as Barron Northorp went 3 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI, Peyton Adams was 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI, Brayden Eavenson singled in a pair of runs, Blake Falor went 2 for 2 and scored twice, and leadoff man Pierce was 1 for 3 with a double, 3 RBI, and stole his team leading 39th base.

The 32 wins matches the 2007 Andrew College baseball team, whose season ended, where the current edition now sits, in the GCAA Semi-Finals. The four remaining teams, Andrew College, Georgia Highlands, Gordon State, and East Georgia, will now revert to a double elimination tournament, as #1 Georgia Highlands faces #4 East Georgia State, and #2 Gordon State takes on the #3 Andrew College on Sunday, with the two winners and the two losers facing off on Tuesday.
