Tigers Rally, Gain Split With Ga. Highlands; Win in Walk Off

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday, at the Hord Athletic Complex, with Georgia Highlands, after dropping the opener and falling behind 7-1 in game two, erupted for 8 runs in the 7th and 8th inning, then rallied again, scoring the game winner on a botched bunt, to walk off in the 10-9 win.

After losing slugger Griffin Long after one at bat in game one to a strained hamstring, and being outscored 24-2 through game one and 7 innings of game two, the Tigers pounced on a Highlands error, and scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th, highlighted by a 3-run blast from Jack Hay, and with 3 runs in the 8th, entered the top of the 9th with a 9-7 lead. Highlands clawed back, plating a pair of runs to knot the score at 9-9. Shortstop Blake Falor led off the 9th with a walk and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Peyton Adams, subbing for the injured Long, laid down a perfect bunt, sacrificing Falor to third base, when the Highlands infielder lost the throw to first base in the sun, allowing the ball to dribble into right field, and sending Falor home with the walk off game winner.

Brayden Eavenson went 3 for 4 with a pair of runs scored, Kaleb Podger was 3 for 5, with a double, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI, Hay belted his 2nd homer, a 3-run job, Jake Edwards and Jacob Pierce each had a pair of hits, with a double, Falor doubled in a run, and Chandler Griggs picked up his 2nd win on the season.

The Tigers are back at the Hord Athletic Complex on Tuesday for a 3:00 pm doubleheader against ABAC. The Tigers split a doubleheader with Stallions in Tifton on March 16, dropping game one 5-4, before rallying to take game two, 10-4.
