Tiger's Split With Lurleen B. Wallace, Win 18-8, Fall 9-8

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College baseball team split a doubleheader against Lurleen B. Wallace (AL) at the Hord Athletic Complex on Wednesday, taking game one 18-8, shortened to 5 innings due to the mercy rule, then dropping the nightcap 9-8. The split leaves Andrew with a 13-2-1 record on the season.

Griffin Long stayed red hot, going 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored and an RBI in the 18-8 win. Jonathan Manibusan doubled twice, singled, scored 3 times and drove in one, Kaleb Podger was 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored, belted his 2nd homer of the year, a towering drive to right field with the bases loaded, and Jack Hay tripled in 3 runs, as the Tigers pounded out 15 hits in the win. Colby Fields (2-0) tossed 4 innings to record the win, scattering 7 hits and striking out 2.

Unable to hold an 8-2 lead in game two, the Tigers fell for the 1st time since February 5th, a span of 10 games. Podger went 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored, and 2 RBI, Long drove in a pair of runs, his Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) leading 26th RBI, Hay doubled in a run, and Manibusan drove in 2 runs with a pair of ground outs in the 9-8 loss. Starter Dalton Harrell was sharp, pitching 5 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 1 earned run, and striking out 7.

Long is 3rd in the GCAA with a .529 batting average, Podger is 3rd with 20 RBI, Hay is 5th in RBI with 16, Jacob Pierce leads with 17 stolen bases, Alex Jarrell leads all pitchers with 25 strikeouts, Jonah Stout is 3rd in strikeouts with 20, and is tied for the lead with 3 wins on the young season.

The Tigers are back at Hord on Saturday with a 1:00 pm doubleheader against Gulf Coast State (FL).
