Tiger Baseball Sweeps LBW; Run Record to 10-1-1

ANDALUSIA, Ala. -- The Andrew College baseball team swept Lurleen B. Wallace in Andalusia, AL on Saturday, riding strong pitching and a solo homer in the top of the 8th inning from third baseman Griffin Long to take game one 3-1, then broke out the heavy lumber in game two, trouncing the Saints 13-2 behind a 12-hit attack, while Jonah Stout struck out 5 and scattered just two hits in 6 innings to run his season record to 3-0 on the season.

Long hit his 1st homer of the year leading off the 8th inning to snap a 1-1 tie, JT Whatley singled in an insurance run, and Drew Wikerson belted his 1st home run, as the Tigers turned six hits into 3 runs. Alex Jarrell started and went 4 innings, striking out 10, Andrew Parr came on for 2.1 scoreless innings, punching out 2, Drew Ginter put out a threat in the 7th inning, retiring the only two batters he faced to pick up his 1st win of the year, and Chandler Griggs picked up his 2nd save in the 3-1 win in game one.

In game two, the Tigers broke up a 2-2 game with 5 runs in the 4th inning, 3 more in the 5th to cruise to the 13-2 victory. Long was 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI, Kaleb Podger doubled and singled, stole a base, and scored twice, Jack Hay was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Whatley belted his 2nd homer of the year, and Peyton Adams had a pair of hits and scored once to pace the attack. Stout was masterful for his 3rd start in a row, allowing just 1 earned run, and lowered his ERA to 1.06.

The Tigers travel to Thomasville, GA on Tuesday for a 2:00 pm doubleheader against Thomas University JV.
