Tiger Baseball Wins One,Ties One With Enterprise State; Williams Gets 200th Win

ENTERPRISE, Ala. -- After a week off due to the incessant rain, the Tigers prevailed on Wednesday over Enterprise State CC (AL) in game one 6-5 and went extra innings in game two only to see the game called a tie at 6-6, due to darkness. The 6-5 win in game one marked the 200th win for Head Coach Blake Williams. While the covered batting cage allowed hitters an opportunity to get in swings, the Tigers were forced into the Jinks Gymnasium with tennis balls and tennis shoes to take fungoes, and pitchers resorted to flat ground throwing, just to knock off some rust. Following the doubleheader, Williams said, "Thrilled to get the win. No. 200 is special. But, it wasn't exactly the crispest baseball I've ever seen. Hopefully, we can get on the field over the next two days."

In game one, Jacob Pierce and Jack Hay did most of the damage for the Tiger offense, with Hay 2 for 4, including a double, a triple and 2 RBI, and Pierce 2 for 3, with 3 stolen bases, a pair of runs scored, a double, and an RBI. Andrew Parr (1-1) came on for 4 innings of relief, scattering 4 hits, and striking out 1 to get the win. Chandler Griggs picked up the two inning save, his 2nd of the season, striking out 3, in the 6-5 win.

Down 5-1 heading into the top of the 6th inning of game two, the Tigers erupted for 4 runs to eventually send the game into extra innings. After Andrew pushed across a run in the top of the 8th inning, the Boll Weevils notted the score at 6-6 in the bottom half, and after another scoreless 9th inning, the game was ruled a tie. Since Enterprise and Andrew College are not scheduled to play anymore this season, the game will count as a tie, and all statistics will count in the season total. Griffin Long and Kaleb Podger each had 3 hits, with Long doubling and driving in 2 runs, and Podger also driving in a pair of runs and scoring once. JT Whatley and Barron Northrup each had 2 hits, with Whatley doubling, and Northrup scoring once in the 12 hit attack. Logan Seehafer struck out 2 in 3 innings of work, and Drew Ginther struck out a pair in 2 innings in the 6-6 tie.

The Tigers travel to Andalusia, AL to take on Lurleen B. Wallace on Saturday in a 1:00 pm doubleheader.
