Baseball Takes 2 of 3 at Kevin Miller Tournament Over Weekend

PANAMA CITY, Fl. -- The Andrew College baseball team made their annual visit to Panama City, FL over the weekend to play in the 2021 Kevin Miller Tournament, hosted again this year by Gulf Coast State College. The Tigers dropped a heart-breaker to Southern Union State (AL) 6-5 on Friday night, had their game Saturday washed out, and moved to Sunday, where the Tigers knocked off Bevill State (AL) 4-1 in the opener, then rallied for 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning, and held on to beat St. Johns River State (FL) 3-2 in the nightcap.

On Friday night, Andrew jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Southern Union, but the Bison rallied with 4 runs in the 4th inning and 2 more in the 5th, and won 6-5. Jack Hay and Jake Edwards both had a pair of hits, Peyton Adams drove in a pair, and Jonathan Manibusan and Edwards both homered for the Tigers, but the Tigers suffered their first loss of the season.

Sunday against Bevill State, saw Andrew ride starter Jonah Stout's (2-0) stellar performance, where he scattered 7 hits in 6 innings, struck out 7, and allowed just 1 unearned run, to run his record to 2-0 on the season, and Dalton Harrell picked up his 1st save of the year in the 4-1 win. The offense scratched out 4 runs on just 6 hits, with Griffin Long going 2 for 3, and Manibusan doubling in a pair of runs to lead the Tiger attack.

Trailing 2-0 for most of game two against St. Johns River State, the Tigers pushed across 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning, and Chandler Griggs (1-0) tossed 2 innings of hitless relief to pick up the win in the 3-2 win. Jacob Pierce doubled to lead off the 7th inning, Kaleb Podger then singled him in, Long reached on an error, Manibusan advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt, then Hay delivered a 2-run single to plate the tying and go ahead runs, and Griggs closed out the victory. The weekend results run the Tigers record to 6-1 on the year.

The Tigers travel to Central Alabama on Wednesday for a single nine inning game.
