Tigers Open Season With 7-2 Win Over SW Tennessee CC

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College baseball team opened the 2020 season with a 7-2 win over Southwest Tennessee Community College (SWTCC) at the Hord Athletic Complex on Saturday night, behind five strong innings from starting pitcher Shawn Host and Kaleb Podger and Jacob Pierce each drove in a pair of runs and Jake Edwards hit a solo blast, as the Tigers pulled away late.

Host, a returning 1st team All Region 17 pick from last season struck out 4 and scattered 5 hits for his 1st win. Jonah Stout added 3 scoreless innings in relief, striking out 6, and Javarious McDaniel struck out 2 in his lone inning of work, as the Tiger pitchers allowed just 1 earned run, while fanning 12 on the night.

Podger opened the bottom of the 1st inning with a triple, and scored on Pierce's groundout to get the Tigers on the board first. Edwards went 2 for 3, with a double also, and scored a pair of runs, Podger was 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored, Andrew Bourque went 2 for 4, and Pierce went 1 for 4 with a double, as the Tigers banged out 10 hits, including 5 extra base hits.

The Tigers finish the series with SWTCC on Sunday with a doubleheader at the Hord Complex, starting at 1:00 pm
