Tigers Knock Off ABAC 9-7; Jones Shuts The Door

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College baseball team took advantage of a dozen walks by ABAC pitching, and timely hitting, to race out to a 9-1 lead after four innings, at the Hord Athletic Complex on Thursday night,  but the Stallions started chipping away at the lead, with 3 runs in the 5th, another in the 6th, and had plated 2 runs in the 7th, when closer Brady Jones entered the ballgame with the tying run at the plate and 2 out. One pitch delivered a fly out and the threat was quelled. Jones then pitched the final two innings, allowing no hits or runs, and striking out 3, for his 8th save of the season, as the Tigers held on for the 9-7 win.. The 8 saves lead the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA), and are one behind the leader in all of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I baseball.

Brenton Phillips led the Tiger offense, going 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI, Justin Barr went 1 for 3 with a pair of runs scored and 2 RBI, Joey Fletcher was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Robert Malone drew a pair of walks and stole 3 bases, and Matthew Holloway drew 3 walks, stole 2 bases, scored a run and picked up an RBI.

Andrew finishes the series against ABAC on Saturday with a 1:00 pm doubleheader at the Hord Complex. Both games will be broadcast at andrewfightingtigers.com.
