CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College baseball team swept a doubleheader against West Georgia Tech on Saturday at the Hord Athletic Complex, winning both games 8-1, behind strong starts from Hunter Norman and Jared Cox, and 22 hits from the offense, to split the four-game series with the Knights.
Norman tossed 5.1 innings of no-hit ball, finally yielding an RBI double in the top of the 6th, giving way to Cotton Phillips, who pitched a perfect 1.2 innings to seal the win. Norman struck out 3 to earn his 2nd win of the season. LJ Bryant belted a pair of line-drive homers, going 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI, Justin Barr, Brenton Phillips, Andrew Bourque, Robert Malone, and Clint Sellers all went 2 for 3, with Malone doubling in 2 runs, and Phillips doubling in 1 run, as the Tigers pounded out 13 hits in the game one, 8-1 win. Malone and Barr both stole a pair of bases, and Matthew Holloway picked up his team-leading 17th stolen base of the year.
Game two saw the Tigers jump out to a 4-1 lead in the 1st, add another run in the 3rd, then put the game away with 3 runs in the 4th, as they cruised to another 8-1 win. Starter Jared Cox breezed through 5 innings of work, allowing just 3 hits, no earned runs, and struck out 1, Jared Sigal induced a double play and struck out 1 in the 6th inning, and Brady Jones blew away the 7th inning, striking out all 3 batters he faced. The Tigers managed 9 hits in the effort, but went 8 for 8 in stolen bases, with Kevin Henry swiping 3, and Phiilips picking up 2, as five different players swiped a bag. Sellers and Barr both went 2 for 3, with Sellers doubling in a pair of runs, Barr singling in a run, and Phillips singling in 2 runs to pace the Tiger offense.
The Tigers take on ABAC in the next series, with a single nine-inning game in Tifton, GA on Tuesday, another single nine-inning game on Thurday at the Hord Complex at 6:00 pm, then conclude the week with a doubleheader on Saturday at Hord, first game is at 1:00 pm.
