Tigers Break Out The Lumber; Sweep Point Univ. JV 4-1 & 7-4

CUTHBERT, Ga. --  With a bye week in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA), the Andrew College baseball team continued their recent stellar play, belting 4 homeruns in the doubleheader sweep of the Point University JV on Wednesday afternoon at the Hord Athletic Complex, taking game one 4-1 and then the nightcap 7-4, for their 13th and 14th wins of the season. The Tigers hit three 2-run homers and a solo home run in the two games. Andrew has now won 6 of 8 games in the past week.

Game one saw Will Barry and Joey Fletcher both go 2 for 3, with Barry belting his 1st homer of the season, a 2-run shot, driving in 3 runs, and scoring once, while Fletcher drove in 1 run, and scored twice. Starting pitcher Shawn Host(3-2) tossed 3 innings, allowed no hits or runs, and struck out 5, to win his 3rd decision in a row, and Dalton Harrell pitched 3 innings of scoreless ball, scattering 2 hits, while striking out 4 in the 4-1 win.

A tight game two had the teams tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the 4th inning, when the Tigers flexed the lumber. Left fielder Robert Malone launched a long drive to left field for his 1st homer of the season, a 2-run job to break the tie, then Justin Barr came up three batters later, and blasted his 3rd homer of the year to left center, another 2-run dinger, to stretch the lead to 6-3. Point JV picked up a run in the top of the 5th, to cut into the lead, but Andrew answered with a mamouth solo homer from designated hitter Fletcher, his 3rd of the year, to push the lead back to four. Closer Brady Jones came on in the 7th inning to pick up his GCAA leading 6th save of the season, retiring the side in order, including 1 strikeout. Ezra Brown(1-1) earned his 1st collegiate win in the 7-4 victory, tossing 2.0 innings, allowing just 1 run and striking out 3. Barr, Fletcher, Brenton Phillips, Barry, and Malone all went 2 for 3, as the Tigers pounded out 12 hits in the win.

The Tigers return to their GCAA schedule next Tuesday, traveling to Carrollton, GA to play West Ga. Tech in a single nine-inning game. The series will continue on Friday, back in Cuthbert with a single nine inning game at 6:00 pm, then a doubleheader on Saturday, first game at 1:00 pm.
