Tigers Split Series With East Georgia State

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Andrew College baseball team split the first four game series of the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) season, taking games one and two, 6-2 & 14-11, before dropping the Saturday doubleheader 4-0 & 8-6.

In game one, Shawn Host tossed a gem, going 7 strong innings, allowing just one earned, scattering nine hits, walking only 1, and striking out 7, to run his record to 2-2, while lowering his ERA to 3.76. Jared Sigal and Brady Jones both pitched a clean inning, with Sigal striking out 1 and Jones striking out 2, in the 6-2 win. Matthew Holloway, Clint Sellers, Joey Fletcher, and Kevin Henry all had a pair of hits, with Holloway doubling in a pair of runs, and Henry tripling, scoring twice and driving in a run, as the Tigers pounded out 12 hits in one of their most complete efforts of the season.

Game two turned into slugfest, as Andrew fell behind 8-0 after the 3rd inning. Clawing their way back into the game, the Tigers scored 2 in the 4th, 1 in the 5th, 2 in the 6th, 7th, and 8th, before taking their 1st lead of the game with 2 in the top of 9th inning, 11-10. East Ga. battled back with a run in the bottom of the 9th, to send the game into extra inning. The Tigers promptly put a pair of runners on, and then Clint Sellers belted a 3-run homer to put the Tigers ahead for good at 14-11. Brady Jones picked his second win of the season with 2 innings of relief. Sellers paced the offense, going 2 for 4, with a homer and 4 RBI, while Matthew Holloway, Joey Fletcher, and Brenton Phillips also had a pair of hits, with Fletcher and Phillips both doubling, and Holloway also stealing his team-leading 15th base of the season.

Hunter Norman was the tough luck loser in game three, as the Tigers managed just 4 hits in the 4-0 loss. Norman allowed just 3 hits and 2 earned runs, while striking out 4 in 4.2 innings of work. LJ Bryant went 2 for 2 with a double.

Game four saw the Tigers take a 5-3 into the bottom of the 6th, but surrendered five runs in the frame to fall behind 8-5. Although, they managed a run in the top of the 7th inning, and had the tying run on base, Andrew could get no closer, falling 8-6. LJ Bryant went 2 for 4 with a solo homer, his second of the season, Kevin Henry went 2 for 3, and Andrew Bourque singled in a pair of runs to pace the Tiger offense.

The Tigers are on their bye week from the GCAA schedule next week, and will return to the Hord Athletic Complex on Wednesday for a doubleheader versus Point University JV, first game is at 2:00 pm. The games will be broadcast on ACDN.
