Tigers Sweep Thomas University JV 4-3 & 16-5 To Open Season

THOMASVILLE, Ga. -- Matthew Holloway hit his 1st collegiate home run, a two-run shot in the 4th inning, to put the Tigers ahead for good in Game 1, eventually winning 4-3, then the Tigers entered the 6th inning in Game 2 down 5-2, before Andrew erupted for 9 runs in the frame, along with 5 more runs in the top of the 7th to pull away for the 16-5 win and complete the season opening sweep of Thomas University JV in Thomasville, GA on Friday afternoon.

In game one, Hunter Norman picked the win, going 3 innings, allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 4, while returning GCAA All-Region closer Brady Jones pitched 2 innings, striking out 3, to pick up his 1st save.  Ryan Middleton pitched 2 scoreless innings in between, also striking out 3, in the 4-3 win.  In addition to Holloway's go ahead shot,  Brenton Phillips went 2 for 2, including a triple, scored once, stole a base and drew a pair of walks to reach base in every at bat,  Justin Barr and Will Barry singled and scored a run, while Clint Sellers and Wade Law each drove in run to pace the Tiger offense.

Game two saw a slow start by Andrew, falling behind 5-2 before the offense exploded for 14 unanswered runs in the 6th and 7th innings to cruise to the 16-5 win. LJ Bryant led the attack, going 3 for 4 with a pair of runs scored, a home run and 3 RBI. Barry, Alex Williford, and Drew Rusak  each had a pair of hits and drove in 2 runs,  Kevin Henry had 2 hits and scored twice,  and Law had a 2-RBI double, as the Tigers pounded out 16 hits in the romp. Chandler Griggs steadied the Andrew pitching staff, throwing a scoreless 5th and 6th inning to earn his 1st collegiate win.

The Tigers return to the Hord Athletic Complex for their home opener on Monday, taking on Thomas JV again in a doubleheader, 1st game is at 3:00 pm.
