Andrew Baseball Gathers Post Season Hardware

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- Head Baseball Coach Blake Williams announced post season honors today, and the Tigers had multiple winners in both academic and athletic awards. Three members of the team were named NJCAA All-Academic Third Team: Matthew Holloway, Brady Jones, and Spencer Nelson

Below is a listing of the three NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athlete Awards with the qualifying grade-point average for each honor:

NJCAA All-Academic First Team: 4.00 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Second Team3.80-3.99 GPA
NJCAA All-Academic Third Team3.60-3.79 GPA

Holloway, a freshman middle infielder from Sharpsburg, GA and Trinity Christian High School, played in 49 games, starting 46, wrapped out 41 hits, including 5 doubles, stole 23 bases, had a .442 OBP and hit .299 on the year. 

Jones, another freshman, this time from  Woodstock, GA and Etowah High School, made a team-high 21 appearances for the Tigers, as well as posting a team-leading 2.58 ERA, won two games and earned a team-leading 7 saves on the mound, all while striking out 41 batters in 45 IP. He was also named the GCAA All-Region 2nd Team Closer.

Nelson, a sophomore from Plant City, FL and Durant High School appeared in 65 games over his career, belting 5 homers, 7 doubles and driving in 28 runs, while earning a reputation as a defensive whiz. He will play next year for Ava Marie University next year, a four-year institution in Ava Maria, FL and is a member of the Sun Conference in the NAIA.

Three members were also named the the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) All-Region and Gold Glove teams: All-Region 2nd Team - Brent Todys - Catcher and Brady Jones - Closer, while centerfielder Jordan Holt was named to the Gold Glove Team, as well as the GCAA Defensive Player of the Year.  

Holt, a sophomore from Ellenwood, GA and Jonesboro High School, put together a stellar two years in Cuthbert, highlighted by a sophomore season where he hit .301 on 52 hits, including 10 doubles, 2 triples, and a home run, had a team-high 46 runs scored, as well as a conference-leading 35 stolen bases, while also patrolling centerfield and fielding 110 putouts, with 5 assists and no errors. The 35 stolen bases and 46 runs scored place him at the #1 spot in the Andrew College baseball single season record categories. He will attend Valdosta State University in Valdosta, GA, an NCAA Division II four year college in the Gulf South Conference.

Todys, a sophomore from Westerville, OH and Westerville North High School spent just one year at Andrew, but left an impact in that short time. He started all 55 games for the Tigers this season, and led the Tiger offense in at bats with 190, hits with 67, doubles with 20, triples with 2, home runs with 6, RBI with 46, batting average with .353, slugging % with .574, putouts with 310, as well as 29 assists and 16 runners caught stealing. The .574 slugging percentage places him #1 in the Andrew College baseball single season record category.
