CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Tigers split a twinbill on Saturday afternoon at the Hord Athletic Complex, knocking off national power Gulf Coast State (FL) 6-2 in game one, before falling in game two 17-2, capping off a weekend where the Tigers took 2 of 3 from Wallace-Dothan (AL) and Gulf Coast State, while winning 4 of 7 games over the past six days.
In game one, the Tigers got a strong start from Colby Mullins(2-0), outstanding relief from Andrew Wingate and Brady Jones, then pounded out 13 hits on offense, led by Will Barry who went 4 for 4 with an RBI, Dahlton Cash and Spencer Nelson who both had a pair of hits, including a double and 2 RBI, Matthew Holloway added a 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Jordan Holt who had two hits and stole his team-leading 14th base to secure the win. Wingate entered the game in the top of the 5th inning in a 2-2 game and the bases loaded and one out, and promptly struck out one, then induced a popup to put down the threat. Jones pitched 2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, and striking out one to pick up his 1st save of the season. Mullins allowed just just 3 hits and 2 runs, while striking out a pair to record his second win of the season.
The Tigers travel to Phenix City, AL on Thursday to take on CVCC in a single nine-iining game, then open GCAA play on Saturday at the Hord Athletic Complex with a sigle nine inning game versus Gordon State College, forst pitch is at 2:00 pm.
