Nelson Hits Grand Slam, But Tigers Fall in 13 Innings to TCC 8-7
CUTHBERT, Ga. -- At the Hord Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon, the visiting Tallahassee Community College Eagles (TCC) opened the game with 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning, but the Tigers answered with 6 runs of their own in the bottom half, highlighted by a score from 2nd base by Jordan Holt on a wild pitch, then a no doubt blast to left from Spencer Nelson with the bases loaded to make the margin 6-3. For 5 innings, the Tiger staff worked out of several jams, before TCC added a run in the 7th inning and 2 runs in the 8th, to send the game into extra innings. The Eagles picked up a run in the 11th, but Holt doubled in the tying run in the bottom half, to send the game into more extra innings. TCC was able to plate another run in the top of the 13th inning, and Andrew was unable to answer this time, falling 8-7.
Holt and Brenton Phillips had a pair of hits each, with Holt doubling and driving in a run, and Nelson went 1 for 5 with 4 RBI on the grand slam homer. Andrew Wingate took the loss in relief.
The Tigers travel to Dothan, AL on Friday to play Wallace State-Dothan in a single nine inning game at 1:00 pm. The two teams have split their two games so far this season. The Tigers will return to the Hord Athletic Complex on Saturday with a doubleheader versus Gulf Coast State (FL), first game is at 1:00 pm.
