Tigers Pound Out 15 Hits; Beat 10th-Ranked Wallace State-Dothan 12-11

CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Tigers knocked off the #10 ranked team in the NJCAA Div.I, Wallace State-Dothan 12-11 on Tuesday afternoon at the Hord Athletic Complex, pounding out 15 hits, and getting a dramatic save from closer Colby Mullins, sparked by a defensive gem from center fielder Jordan Holt and third baseman Dahlton Cash.

The nine inning tilt was a back and forth affair, with Dothan holding an 8-5 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th inning, before the Tigers erupted for 6 runs in the 7th, adding another run in the 8th, and taking a 12-8 lead into the top of the 9th inning. Dothan promptly scored 3 runs and had a runner on 1st base and nobody out when Mullins entered the game. After a flyout, and the runner unable to advance, the next Dothan batter laced a single to center and the runner on 1st base attempted to take 3rd, but a perfect throw from Holt and a quick tag by Cash erased the baserunner and added the 2nd out of the inning. With the tying run at 2nd, Mullins struck out the last Dothan batter, looking, to close out the win.

Will Barry and Cash each went 3 for 5, with Barry driving in 3 runs and Cash picking a pair of RBI, doubling twice and scoring 2 runs. Holt continued his torrid start to the season, also going 3 for 5, driving in a run, doubling, scoring twice and picking up another stolen base. Brent Todys went 2 for 4 and scored 3 runs.

Andrew Wingate(1-0) picked up the win with a scoreless 7th inning, and Mullins picked up the 1st save of the season for the Tigers.

The 3-0 Tigers travel to Panama City, FL for three games over the weekend in the Kevin Miller Tournament, taking on three traditional national powers, Friday versus Gulf Coast State(FL), St. Johns River State(FL) on Saturday, then Chattahoochee Valley Community College(AL) on Sunday.
