Fall Wrap Up 2017

Cuthbert, Ga...  The Andrew College baseball team has now wrapped up their fall schedule with the conclusion of the Navy and Gold Fall World Series.

Prior to the start of the World Series, the Tigers baseball team enjoyed a successful run in their 20 game fall schedule; whitch was highlighted by wins over defending National Champions Chipola College, defending Alabama State Champs Wallace-Dothan Community College, and perennial national power Chattahoochee Valley Community College.

The Tigers were paced offensively this fall by sophomores Jordan Holt (.462 avg 3 2Bs 2 3Bs) and Dahlton Cash (.392 avg 4 2Bs 2 HR).  Returning sophomore OF Kodi Bishop continued his stellar defensive play and sported a batting average over .300.  Transfer sophomore catcher Brent Todys has big shoes to fill with the departure of Chris Schwarzer (National JUCO Defensive player of the year) but proved himself offensively (.326 avg 3 2Bs 2 3Bs 1 HR) and defensively, leaving no doubt he will be the Tigers backstop.  Numerous freshman saw immediate playing time and made their impact felt.  Brenton Phillips, Will Barry, and LJ Bryant lead all freshman hitters and showed great promise heading into the spring season.

On the mound, the Tigers were led this fall by returning sophomore RHP Reagan Anderson.  Anderson finished second on the mound in the fall with a 1.70 ERA in 15 IP.  Returning sophomores Brandon Brown, Colby Mullins and Andrew Wingate all put together impressive falls on the mound and look to make a big impact come spring time.  Transfer sophomore RHP Kevin Donovan made his presence known early in the fall and will be a huge piece of the Tigers pitching staff.  Freshman RHP Nicholas Kempf paced all Tigers hurlers this fall with a 1.23 ERA in 14.2 IP this fall.  Other freshman who stood out in the fall were Daniel Lee, Brady Jones, Darrel Woodall, and Omari Hunter.  The Tigers will feature a veteran pitching staff, but the talent in the freshman class was obvious and will make the staff deep from top to bottom.

The Navy and Gold Fall World Series saw 3 highly competitive games, with Team Cole sweeping the series.

Game one saw an outstanding pitching performance from Team Cole's Brandon Brown, going 5 innings allowing 2 run and striking out 6.  Freshman Brenton Phillips and Will Barry paced the offense, both going 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs each.  For Team Lepore sophomore Spencer was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and freshman Matt Holloway was 2 for 3 with a run scored.

Game two turned into a true pitcher's duel featuring two of the Tigers best pitchers from the fall season.  Team Lepore's Reagan Anderson went 5 innings pitched with 2 earned runs and 2 Ks, but was outdueled by Team Cole's Daniel Lee who threw 5 scoreless innings while only allowing 2 hit and striking out 5.  Freshman Brady Jones closed out the game and secured the 2-1 win for Team Cole.

Game three saw another outstanding day by the Tiger hurlers.  Team Cole was led by redshirt freshman Tyler Goddard, who threw five innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 4.  Sophomore slugger Dahlton Cash highlighted the day offensively clubbing his 6th homerun of the fall.  Fellow sophomore and Valdosta State University signee Jordan Holt also had a big day going 2 for 4 with 2 stolen bases.

With the conclusion of the Navy and Gold Word Series, the Tigers wrap up their fall and set their sights on the spring season.  The Tigers spring team will feature an excellent group of sophomores and a talented group freshman eager to make an impact.  Stay tuned for our spring season preview and 2018 schedule release.
