Gold Team wins Fall 2016 World Series

Cuthbert, GA…

The 2016 Fall World Series ended with a lot of emotions, lead changes, and several homeruns. The Navy vs. Gold World Series went all the way to the deciding game 3 to decide the winner. The Navy team won game 1 with a score of 4-2 after a brilliant pitching performance from Reagan Anderson (game 1 starter Navy) propelled his team to an early lead in the series. Game two was once again won by a dominating pitching performance from Roman Oliu (game 2 starter for gold) as he shutout the navy team to win with a final score of 4-0. This split the series tied 1-1 and sending it to a deciding game 3 on Friday November 4 that would not lack some hitting firepower, lead changes, and pressurized coaching decisions from Asst Coach Zac Cole (Gold Team) and Asst Coach Michael Skelly (Navy Team). Game 3 started off with a bang as Cary Holloway lead the game off with a solo homerun only to be followed up with the next batter Mike Branche hitting a solo shot as well to put the Gold team up quickly with a score of 2-0. Both starters on the mound settled down and the Nay team had battled back and tied the score 4-4 in the 5th inning and that score would stand until the top of the 7th inning when the Gold team bats would wake up once again to show some fire power. The gold team was able to score a couple runs and then Jimmy Fackler put the dagger in with a opposite field homerun to end any hopes of the Navy team battling back. The Gold team ended up winning the deciding game 3 with a score of 8-4 which also gave them the series win.

Coach Zac Cole (Gold Team) commented, "Very proud of the Gold team they battled all week and it shows a big part of our team character and desire to be great with the will to battle back from the opening series lose. It was a fun World Series and a great way to cap off our fall." Head Coach Blake Williams had the luxury of seeing the game from a different perspective as he did some umpiring during all three games of the World Series. Coach Williams said, "It was one of the most exciting and fun World Series that I have been a part of as we saw some great pitching, timely hitting, and a few homeruns. The guys really jumped in full force for the bragging rights of winning the series which made it very fun to watch. It was good to see some guys be put in some tough situations and to see how they would react to it and attack the different scenarios. It was a great overall team World Series as I felt we got better and battled every pitch and that is all you can ask for as a coach."
